Several official methods describe the use of microwave closed-vessel technology to enhance the extraction efficiency of organic pollutants, such as US EPA 3546, ASTM and other national methods.

The method EPA 3546 describes a procedure for extracting water-insoluble or slightly water soluble organic compounds from soils, clays, sediments, sludge and solid wastes.

The ETHOS X with fastEX-24 rotor is fully compliant with US EPA 3546 and offers an efficient extraction of up to 24 samples simultaneously. In fact, the system can be used for solvent extraction of chlorinated pesticides, semi-volatile organics, PAHs, PCBs, chlorinated herbicides, phenols, organophosphorus pesticides, dioxins and furans.

Quick-to-adopt extraction technique

No learning curve or expertise is needed to use the system: operators simply follow a quick-to-adopt process to prepare the run. The FastEX-24 rotor is easy to use and the opening and closing of vessels couldn’t be simpler. The contactless temperature control eliminates the need for a temperature probe and the use of disposable glass vials saves us labor and eliminates time spent for cleaning. The glass vials are inexpensive and consumable cost are negligible.

Easy-to-validate method

ETHOS X microwave extraction system fully complies with EPA 3546, making easier to validate the method since it shows excellent performance and precision for the following analytes: contaminants such as PAHs, PCDDs/PCDFs, chlorinated pesticides, and PCBs.
